Precarious Moments
In December 2019, the world saw its first case of COVID-19. The spread of the virus continued throughout 2020 and 2021, forcing countries into national lockdowns. During this time, as people try to curb the rapid spread and mutation of COVID-19, many have limited the number of persons with whom they come into direct contact. For many individuals, there has been a halt on developing new relationships, and the need to feel connected to others has driven people to strengthen their bonds with those physically closest to them, whether they be family or friends. Furthermore, in a world where usual activities are limited to protect others from illness, many people have placed an importance on and find enjoyment in the quality time shared with their loved ones.
In my series Precarious Moments, I explore human connection in the context of the pandemic by documenting moments shared between people and their loved ones. Among the types of relationships pictured are couples, parents and children, siblings, and friends. This series examines the many ways in which these relations show comfort with one another through the considertaion of body language. Not only is Precarious Moments meant to be a documentation of relationships, but it is also meant to provide comfort to those who lack connection to other people at this point in the pandemic.
